14.85:1 Low-Geared High-Torque Transaxle for Club Car Electric Vehicles
Upgrade your Club Car with our 14.85:1 geared transaxle, engineered for maximum torque and reliability in demanding conditions. This is the same gear ratio used in factory AC drive models such as the Club Car Onward HP and Club Car Tempo vehicles equipped with the OEM AC drive system.
Most standard electric Club Cars come equipped with a 12.3:1 gear ratio, which works well for flat terrain and stock tire sizes. However, when you install oversized tires or operate your vehicle on hilly or off-road terrain, the 14.85:1 gear set provides a noticeable boost in pulling power and overall drivability.
Understanding Gear Ratios
The gear ratio determines how many times the motor turns for each rotation of the wheels. A lower (numerically higher) ratio—like 14.85:1—means the motor spins more times per wheel revolution. This increases torque and hill-climbing ability, while slightly reducing top speed compared to the standard 12.3:1 gearing.
In practical terms, the 14.85:1 ratio provides:
More torque and pulling power
Better performance with oversized tires
Improved acceleration and climbing ability
Reduced strain on the motor and controller
Slightly lower maximum ground speed than the 12.3:1 gears
If your Club Car sees heavy loads, rough terrain, or larger-than-stock tires, this low-geared transaxle is the ideal upgrade for enhanced performance and durability.
Performance Comparison
| Motor Speed (RPM) | Tire Height | Calculated Ground Speed | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4500 RPM | 18" Tire | 19.6 MPH | Standard tire setup with 12.3:1 (factory) gears |
| 4500 RPM | 22" Tire | 19.8 MPH | Oversized tires with 14.85:1 gears |

*If you order the entire assembly, it will work with a 10-spline motor from any Club Car from 1985 thru present.
*If you have a Graziano or Dana/Spicer transaxle from 2000 and up, all of these parts are a direct replacement. You have the option of ordering the gear case only and using your stock axles, or ordering the entire assembly as a replacement.
*If you have a Kawasaki transaxle or any other transaxle used from 1985-1999, you will be required to order the entire assembly.
*If you order the gear case only, you MUST have an existing Graziano, Dana/Spicer differential in the cart now. Otherwise your axles will not fit on the gearcase. If this is your case, you must order the version that offers the axles and axle tubes with it. Your brakes will transfer over to the new axle flanges.
